Primavera offers the best in class project management tools for project planning, scheduling and almost everything you'd want when in comes to managing a project of any magnitude.

Unless your firm gives proper weightage to the soft tools required for proper planning and execution of projects, Primavera is going to come as a somewhat expensive option.

Using critical path methodologies for project management, Primavera systems are known for their accuracy in determining how well a project's actual completion matches the plan. Primavera has evolved throughout the years, and the addition of new features and concepts has made it easier and more efficient to use, such as tracking resources and expenses and also sharing and storing updates over the cloud, making it a more versatile tool. Our capacity to share workflows, updates, and generate reports has been boosted by cloud connectivity. Primavera's inability to be tampered with ensures that the findings we receive are as accurate as possible. To begin, I prefer the Primavera process of creating work plans, creating a WBS, and then adding tasks with their associated Duration, Cost, Materials, and Human Resources (both direct and indirect). We obtain a lot of useful information when we update the programs, such as the percentage of total completion, the estimated completion date, and how long the project has been overdue or filed on time. I also appreciate the ability to use filters to narrow down the work schedule and perform the necessary calculations for only a portion of the project's activity. In addition, I like to alter the columns in order to provide more results.

There are two reasons why Primavera is difficult to use: First, it requires extensive training and certification. Second, it's too expensive for even large corporations to expand their membership.
Another issue is that it may appear complicated, as other Oracle systems do, due to the emphasis it places on outcomes rather than aesthetics. This can be a problem for some users, who may also be afraid to use it. If you're not an expert in Excel or other similar software, you'll have a hard time exporting and importing data from them.

You can set various views so that contractors and subcontractors can upload documents, but cannot see other sensitive information that is uploaded by the client or management.

Slow, confusing, no one in our company likes to use it so only 2 people end up loading and tracking all of the documents instead of it being an easier search for everyone. Our version does not update unless you pay for a new update, and the version is so outdated that it does not work with most people's browsers and Java anymore.

Oracle Primavera provides the flexibility to integrate different schedules while maintaining each on as a stand-alone schedule when needed. The ability to create different layouts, filters and baselines is a great feature to satisfy different requirements from our stakeholders. We use Springboard platform to access the software through a web connection adding additional flexibility and real time access. We had use the software with a peak of seven planners including two CM companies in a Green Field project with great success.
In addition, we are currently planning a shutdown and the ability to schedule using different calendars and resources has been very useful in identifying gaps and peaks in our plan.
The option to have multiple baselines is also useful to compare current schedule through different phases of the project.

Resources/progress graph and histograms are not as good as I am used to get from other application like Excel. Data export is not always as expected and some data manipulation is required in the other application (like Excel) to get the appropriate formats.

Great program with featured packed for everything that is required to schedule. We did also linked it up to REVIT so the schedule and the 3D model can work together and show the build up.

A long learning curve but once you figure out the short cuts then this program is awesome.

The application structure is built according to PMI Standards and follows the processes exactly as described in PMBOK.

Time expent to configuration and implementation is high.

Primavera Cloud is really a good cloud-based application, earlier I used to have a system installed-based application but when the organization grows it becomes very difficult to buy more software on high cost .
But this cloud-based system solved that purpose.

I don't feel any such issue so far as I am using this from last 15 years.

The ability to build huge and complex schedules. P6 has been the construction scheduling standard for a while now. The ability handle the thousands of activities in a large project and adjust to the constant changes of the construction industry.

Primavera P6 is not an easy software package to learn and it is not very cheap. You get out what you put into the software and the skills it takes to learn it.

I can't stress enough that the amount of features in Primavera makes scheduling, baselining, statusing for large and small scale projects so detailed. You can add copious amounts of details that can be relevant to both the PDT and the client.

Primavera is honestly fairly hard to learn and takes even longer to master. The longer you learn and live in the system, the better you get. Training is definitely not enough to learn how to master the system.

I love how easy is it to see linked attributes in the gantt chart. There is simple connecting and coloring that allows you to track exactly where you are on a program, project or task level. It is relatively easy to use. As long as you are familiar with Excel you should be able to use most of the basic features. The WBS structure is similar to other programs I've worked in and the ability to copy and past at different levels helps to speed up the setup of a project.

There are a ton of functionality with the software but I have found it difficult to get any instruction or help when I get into some of the more complex features. Googling is about your best bet when you have a questions about something. There have also been some issue when you switch between versions. New versions aren't able to connect to the older version's server and therefore do not have access to the other schedules.

P6 is utilized industry wide in construction, so becoming familiar with it provides all the tools you need to generate and analyze schedules.

It's very robust in the amount of things you can do with schedules. You can modify the relationships, type of activities, durations, calendar settings, views.

Provides the ability to export data to excel, which is useful when analyzing schedule delays and performance.

It's not too user-friendly software. Since it operates as a database and does not work like Microsoft or Apple software (because it isn't) but it sort of looks like it, it's easy to believe it operates in the same way as software you are used to using, but it's fundamentally different. One example is how projects are "saved", which is not as straightforward as saving and/or copying files. There's more to it.

P6 is rather rigid in that it's for the most part limited to Gantt charts. It has other views but they do't provide much value.

One improvement the software could do would be to add flowline diagram features for producing and visualizing schedules.

This product allows me to work with people who work in different segmentation in our industry seamlessly on each and every project. It's so easy.. its a no brainer really. Approval processes are easy, everything is simple. If there is ever any kind of issue it has been resolved with in moments of reaching out to tech support. I also was able to teach myself this program which is always a bonus.

Exporting software to other platforms is hard. for our all employee meetings it is difficult to show some processes and such with ease. A mobile platform would also be beneficial to our company

Easy to learn and use. Great for reporting and managing big sets of data by all attributes.

Import and export functions is kind of basic, it would be more useful if there are greater options.

The software seems straight forward and easy to use. Our company used it across our whole organization for time tracking, as that was such a useful feature. There are many more components that can be used in various project collaboration, as well as customizations to the software that can be made through coding.

As far as using it as a time entry tool, the interface does seem a little overdone, more like a glorified spreadsheet. I sometimes get the feeling "what's all this?" when I just want to enter time.

Oracle Primavera is the best software currently available for project management work in Civil Engineering Industry. Primavera is a very powerful tool to prepare project programs aligning labor and resources for a successful completion. Primavera helps to make effective decision making at the correct time to increase the efficiency of the project. Presentation of results are very clear and at a high quality level. System is based on a cloud so everybody can have the access and work for the greater good.

Software is complex for a beginner and it takes time to get familiar with the system. It is little difficult to what went wrong when you don't get the results you expected. I had to re do few programs from the beginning since I couldn't find what went wrong. Once an activity is changed, it cannot be simply undone.

It is an industry leading standard for CPM construction that does not materially change between updates.

It is not user friendly if you have not used similar CPM scheduling software before.

I feel like this newer version of P6 Primavera might take the industry by hold. None of the scheduling software that is worth anything is intuitive. I am glad about very small updates in this, like the scrolling with a mouse, and speeding things up a bit for long and tedious projects.

Still clunky but gets the job done. All of the scheduling software I have used is clunky however. Microsoft Project is intuitive but not what we use for large projects at all.

There is almost no missing requirement/function in planning and scheduling already provided by P6. There is a variety of ability and functionality in P6, from the simple schedule to a very complicated delay analysis in construction or any other types of project. P6 can cover all the requirement of time management as one of the project management area of knowledge.

The feature of the software is not as beautiful as MS Project and learning the software needs a lot of effort and exercise.

The nice thing about Primavera was the ability to have construction drawings, specifications, design reviews, change notices, contact information for all team members and communications centrally located through one service.

We've used Primavera during several construction jobs as that was the preferred construction management solution our client selected. Primavera required a specific version of Java to be deployed, which caused a lot of lost productivity trying to roll back our Java installations internally. This was a constant sticking point throughout the project.

To people who don't think logically or can't follow a detailed breakdown it can be hard to explain the impacts of changes to a project.

What I like most about Oracle is that it is a very secure software that allows very sensitive information to remain protected.

It isn't as easy to reset your username and password as other sites, but that just secures the software more.

This is the best tool available to manage project schedules of any size. This software is the industry standard when it comes to scheduling.

Nothing to dislike for this software. Schedules built using this can be shared and collaborated on. Allows easy data manipulation via Excel dumps.
